Humane Society of Macomb’s Adventure Dogs Program

In March, we launched our new volunteer program Adventure Dogs!

Adventure Dogs allows Humane Society of Macomb volunteers to take adoptable dogs offsite to one of several approved local parks.

The time frame can be anywhere from an hour to the whole day.

The dogs get to enjoy car rides, new sights and smells, and walks around the park. Additionally, we learn more about the dogs to help them find their furever home.

In the time the program has been running, we have already seen tremendous improvements in the dogs who have participated in Adventure Dogs. Some of the dogs who have participated include Harvey, Abby, Darla, Sylis, and Mia all who have been adopted.

The goal of this program is to reduce the stress levels of these dogs while they wait to be adopted.

In order to become a volunteer with Adventure Dogs, you must first be a volunteer with the Humane Society of Macomb. We require our volunteers to be at least 13 years or older and ask that they spend four or more hours per month volunteering at the shelter. To become a volunteer, sign up here.

If you are already a Humane Society of Macomb volunteer, you’ll go through an orientation process and a training session to learn how to safely and appropriately interact with the animals. If you are cleared, you will then be able to take the dogs out for an adventure!
