Humane Society of Macomb

Save Lives

Adopting from the Humane Society of Macomb saves lives. We are proud to be a high-save shelter and the animals in our care have no time limit. Our goal is to find home for 100% of the adoptable animals that find their way to our shelter.

Adopting a Pet

If you are looking to adopt a new furever friend, we encourage you to check out the animals available here at the Humane Society of Macomb. If you are interested in adopting our process has gone online. We ask that you fill out a pre-adoption questionnaire and we will be in touch to schedule a follow up appointment. To learn more or to view adoptable animals, be sure to visit our Adoptions page.

The Greatest Dogstravaganza on Earth!

Join us on Friday, November 12, 2021, at Palazzo Grande for a thrilling evening with jugglers, aerial artists, dinner, open bar, silent auction and more. This event is our biggest fundraiser of the year and helps so many animals. We hope to see you there.

What We Do

Our Services

pet home

Finding Pets a Home

Our priority is those who cannot speak for themselves. We are proud to be a community resource helping adoptable animals find their furever homes.

pet education

Humane Education

Humane education promotes empathy, problem solving skills and more. We believe that education is important for our community.

pet neuter

Spay and Neuter

We all need to do our part to control the pet population. We love animals and want you and your neighbors to get your pets spayed or neutered.

It is always hard when situations change and a pet must leave their family. We work with families to keep their pets with them, but when it is not an option, we work hard to find new homes for those animals.

Our Mission

To help those who cannot speak for themselves. To provide humane care for unwanted, abused and injured animals. To prevent cruelty to animals. To place adoptable pets into good, permanent homes with responsible owners. To make every effort to return stray animals turned into the shelter to their original owners. To promote spay and neutering, to prevent overpopulation through education.

Featured Pets

Poncho is a 2.5-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier that came to us from another shelter. Poncho is very curious about everything around him and likes to be included in every conversation. Poncho is the biggest couch potato and needs someone that will motivate him to work his brain and body. Poncho would do well with other dogs and cats with proper introduction.

Mimosa is a 3-year-old domestic short hair who was brought to us as a stray back in January. She has been in foster for quite some time and is eagerly waiting for a home to call her own. Mimosa needs someone who will be patient with her while she adjusts to her new surroundings.

Adopting a Pet

What do you need to adopt?

One of the questions we receive most often is what do I need to adopt? It’s a fairly simple process once you find the animal you want to add to your family. We do work hard to pair animals with the right home for each situation and will request that you complete a pre-adoption questionnaire. You must be 21 years of age or older to adopt and have a government issued photo ID with proof of address, a copy of your lease (if you rent), and vaccination records for any current pets in the home.
