The End of an Era

At the regular May Board Meeting of the Humane Society of Macomb, our Director, Shirley Burgess, announced her retirement effective June 30, 2016.  Shirley had requested at that time that her notice of retirement be held confidential until a later date.

Shirley has been instrumental in overseeing the improvements of both the animal welfare and to the building and grounds at the shelter over the last year. She has helped set the ground work for many new and exciting ideas and programs that will continue after her retirement.

Shirley has dedicated the last 47 years of her life to the Humane Society of Macomb and her absence will be greatly felt by the Board and staff.

The Board and staff of the Humane Society of Macomb would like to express their gratitude for Shirley’s years of service.
