A Special Thank You to Melissa from The Devoted Barn for helping our pony “Emma”
Emma, the white pony at our shelter, came to the Humane Society of Macomb several years ago. She was confiscated from her previous owner for abuse and neglect. It is unfortunate, but when it comes to animal cruelty, dogs, cats, horses and livestock are the most often abused. Most cases are never reported and it is sad to say that much suffering of our animal friends goes unnoticed. We are lucky that Emma was found and was brought to our shelter.
While in the care of her previous owner she developed Laminitis. Laminitis is a painful inflammatory condition of the tissues that binds the hoof wall to the pedal bone in a horse’s hoof. It can affect any horse of any age at any time of the year.
While at the shelter she receives regular examinations & care (including pain medication) from local equine veterinarians.Β Her hooves have been, and continue to be, trimmed at least monthly by our experienced farrier.
Melissa from the Devoted Barn animal rescue & rehabilitation facility saw a picture of Emma’s feet and thought that her farrier, Ryan, may be able to help.Β Melissa and Ryan met with our Director yesterday afternoon and evaluated Emma.
Emma has been doing well and even gave Melissa and Ryan a workout chasing her around the corral.
Ryan did a great job trimming Emma’s hooves on his first visit, and will continue to help us try to improve her feet and care.
Thank you for your help!
