On Saturday, March 4 Charlotte Yakima and Cristen Alimario hosted our second TNR training class. The class was conducted in the Education Room at the Humane Society of Macomb. Local Macomb County residents were welcomed by Ken Kempkens, current Interim Director for the Humane Society of Macomb.
What is TNR?
TNR (Trap Neuter Release) is an effective means of dealing with the overpopulation of feral cats in the community. We were honored and pleased with the turnout of the event with over a dozen members from the community attending. At the event community members learned the following about TNR:
- Why TNR? – The advantages of TNR
- Differences between feral and community cats
- Video on fixing feral cat overpopulation
- The 8-Step TNR process
- Necessary tools needed for TNR
- Effective trapping techniques and timing
- Feeding stations and shelters for community cats
Future TNR Classes
We would like to extend our thanks to those members from the community who attended and made our second TNR event a great success. Here at the Humane Society of Macomb we look forward to continuing to be a resource to provide the community education on important issues such as TNR.
