The Rescue Bed Building Event

On August 25th the Humane Society of Macomb hosted our first Rescue Bed Building event. We invited over 18 surrounding rescues throughout the area. This event was a time to value and cherish our rescue partners while making a difference together for animals in need.

At the Rescue Bed Building event the rescues and their volunteers came out to build beds for dogs with supplies provided by the Humane Society of Macomb. The event also entailed having our rescue partners take a tour of our facilities, meeting some of our pets awaiting a furever home, and enjoying refreshments.

Other supplies such as leashes, collars, and toys were also handed out by the Humane Society of Macomb.

A Happy Ending

We were extremely happy with the turnout for the Rescue Bed Building event. Seven out of 18 of our rescue partners attended the event. The event turned out to be a great way to connect with our fellow rescue neighbors and join forces together for a worthy cause.

Of the 7 rescues who attended they brought a total of 41 participants willing and ready to work. We greatly appreciated all the participants who attended the event. They gave of their personal time and effort to build the dog beds. In only a few hours our rescue partners and the Humane Society of Macomb built over 60 dog beds in total.

A special guest attended the event as well. We were honored to have Cheryl Phillips, the creator of GG’s Journey (a story about a Pitbull written from a dog’s point-of-view), attend the event and give of her time as well.

One of the shining moments of the event was when one rescue group made their beds and donated them back. We were truly touched by this gesture and feel it captures the heart of how rescue partners should work together for the common good of all animals. The Rescue Bed Building event was a major success to connect other local rescue partners together while making an impact for dogs in need.
