A Letter from the Humane Society of Macomb Board of Directors

The board of directors of the Humane Society of Macomb and our staff are passionate about the animals who find a temporary home at our shelter on their way to their “forever” home.

We are working on building a shelter that all the citizens of Shelby Township and Utica are proud of. While we are aware that there are more changes that need to happen, we have made great strides this year.

Here is an update of a few items that showcases our progress:

  • We continue to maintain our save rate, which is 95% since April 2015 and are reviewing some changes that will improve the buildings and grounds.
  • Our employees are undergoing additional education and training to insure they understand “best practices” of animal welfare and learn the newest ideas for animal behavior procedures.
  • We have been working to improve animal socialization with a certified trainer since early this year. We are working to improve volunteer programs, focusing on better coordination and follow up time for our rescue groups, and we are looking into future foster programs.
  • We will begin the search for a new director who fits in with our team, embodies the values we have, and works with the shelter’s new guidelines to try to save all animals.

To keep apprised of additional updates, please sign up for our monthly newsletter here.

As always, everything we do is for the animals trusted into our care. If you are interested in seeing the animals up for adoption or learning more about how you can help, please visit the shelter, Monday thru Saturday between 10am and 4pm.
