In September, Habs (known at the Humane Society of Macomb as Randy) was dumped in a ditch with his paws and muzzle duct-taped after being shot in the head three times. His crime? He nipped while having his nails trimmed. After being shot, he was left in that ditch and was only discovered in late March after the snow had melted and uncovered his body.
This cruel and unimaginable act had been carried out by Habs’ owner, a Corrections Officer, Jacob Wilkinson. This officer had only met Habs because he had been part of the Blue Star Service Dogs jail training program. Where Habs had been working to become a service dog for veterans with PTSD, his name, Habs, actually came from a veteran.
Jacob Wilkinson had many options when he decided to take Habs’ life. He never contacted the Humane Society of Macomb or Blue Star Service Dogs about returning him. He could have contacted a groomer for help with his nails. However, he did none of those but chose instead to torture and kill Habs’.
This act cannot go unpunished, and we are asking you to advocate for Habs as #wordsarentenough. Below are addresses to email regarding the case and articles with more information.
